The very sad truth is that we are not equal in our susceptibility to becoming ill from the virus. As the UK challenge trial shows some exposed intentionally never became infected nor had any antibody response meaning the virus couldn't replicate. Pity we really don't know why. Those with a robust immune system got infected but had a mild course. Those with various comorbidity conditions had more severe illness but those with high levels of Vit D rarely died. And we know that there is 1000x difference between the seniors and the young. All the mitigation measures are one size fits all thus certain to be necessary for the population and in fact are revealed to have had little effect. The science of all we witnessed needs considerable work examining the effect of immune systems and better modelling of potential super-spreader individuals rather then groups. We need to understand the spike behavior of the infections.

Still despite the Swedish experience we see Germany still thinking mitigation works.
